There was a lot happening over weekend and last couple of days. On Saturday the team was able to distribute food to 600 out of the 1000 families staying in the national stadium, with the remaining 400 families receiving food packages on Sunday morning. These packages contained enough food to feed an entire family for one week. There was security at the food distribution but there were still some tense moments for the team distributing the food.
“The stadium had nearly the ideal set up to do such a distribution with this number of people, with fencing, gates and walls, forming a controllable wall point of distributing the food. When they started handing out the food though the people began to get anxious and began to press against the gates with a large mass of people.”
The Jesus film was also shown both inside the stadium and outside with an estimated 6000 people (the population of the camp) attending the showings.
“On the first day that the Jesus film showed the film at the stadium the team informed us that they had attendance of 3000 people with 100 people making a commitment to God, at the second showing outside on the back of the stadium, they also had a attendance of 3000 and had 50 people come forward making a commitment to God.”
There were also showings on Saturday evening at a clinic across from the national palace as well as 2 showing in another IDP camp where we have been working. We’ll be getting numbers from these showings and passing them on as soon as we’ve received them.
On Monday, a water filter training and distribution occurred as schedule at the church in Chambrun. The families that were receiving the filters had been chosen in advance as representatives that would use the filter as an opportunity to witness to their neighbors about Christ.

“We had prepared the church by finding out how many families there were and selecting one out of ten families to receive the filters. We had pre-determined that we were going to distribute seven water filters. The church/community liaison, one interpreter and 7 women came….. They were all very interested and I talked about to them about the filters not belonging to them, but it belongs to God and that they were just stewards of the filters. We talked about them being missionaries since they are to share it with 9 or so other families and that they were to take the time to invite their family, friends and neighbors to use the filter and share with them the good news about Jesus Christ. I showed them how the filter works, filtering some of the water that they took out of a cistern, ran it through the filter and drank it, telling them that even a white man with a very weak stomach could drink it. They laughed but really opened their eyes as I did this.”
